The Synagogue Church of All Nations, based in London, holds a prayer line once a month where people from across Europe come to be healed of all kinds of illnesses, Sky News reported Friday. If we are to accept Holmes' miraculous claims at face value, the obvious next question would be, 'Why did those six people die?'
During the prayer line, pastors shout over the person being healed for the devil to come out of the body, while spraying water in the face.
Pastor Rachel Holmes told Sky News the church has a 100 percent success rate.
"We have many people that contract HIV. All are healed," Holmes said.
The church goes on to claim people who were not healed did not fully accept God would heal them. The below video, from a Sky news broadcast, contains footage from the church's 'healings.'
"We must have a genuine desire if we come to God. We are not in position to question anybody's genuine desire. Only God knows if one comes with true desire. Only God can determine this," the church said.
"That is why, if anybody comes in the name of God, we pray for them. The outcome of the prayer will determine if they come genuinely or not."
This sort of evangelical 'healing' is an example of the many ways in which faith can impede progress, and even kill. This is only one in a long string of recent deaths related to 'faith healing.'
Each of these could have been prevented by simply taking the child to the doctor rather than relying on a supernatural intervention.
A recent study by the University of California at San Diego and a Sioux City, Iowa, group called Children's Healthcare Is a Legal Duty, concluded:
Four of every five sick children in the United States who died after their parents put their trust in faith healing could probably have survived if medical treatment had been sought, according to a study published yesterday in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. We live in an age where medicine and technology have rendered obsolete the primitive and barbaric treatments of Biblical times. The germ theory of disease has displaced the 'need' for exorcisms, bloodletting, and trepanning. We would be fools to favor prayer over the use of antibiotic ointment in the case of a simple scratch.
The report, which examined 172 child deaths in faith healing families from 1975 to 1995, concluded that 140 of the deaths, or 81 percent, were due to conditions that had a survival rate exceeding 90 percent with treatment.
Eighteen other children would have had better than a 50 percent chance of living with treatment, and all but three children would have benefited from medical help, the report said.
And yet:
In one case cited in the report a child choked on a banana and showed signs of life for nearly an hour while her parents reacted by calling people to pray.

This is why so many feel anger towards religion, amongst other things...
ReplyDeleteSad. It's sad that people choose to believe that faith will heal them because they are so desperate, and it's sadder yet that innocent children die because their parents feel they have to prove that their "god" works.
ReplyDeleteAnd here we have another classic example of the moral depravity of religion. Truly sad indeed.
ReplyDeleteSad indeed. And this is what makes me so angry...not only did the church give these people false hope, but then when they died, it was their fault for not believing hard enough. Un-fricking-believable.
ReplyDelete"The outcome of the prayer will determine if they come genuinely or not."
ReplyDeleteUnless you are Yahweh/God, you are in no right position to make claims about others. Are you a doctor? An angel? God? No, you're a messenger. You can't magically perform miracles. You need the power that is given to you to do so.
Those six people didn't die because they didn't fully devote themselves, you as a preacher didn't follow through and realize you weren't almighty and all-knowing. Idiot. >_>
But to me God has the power to heal whatever manner disease only we need to be faithful and if someone prays for you, you must also believe. Remember you first confess your sins truly being penitent for the rest of your life. First ask your existence! How did you happen to exist? Ask your death! How can someone who had all the strength and energy finally die? All is because of the power of God!Jesus used to heal and the afflicted to go to priests for examination. This means these people had to go and re-test if they had faith. What you also need to know is healing can either be instantaneous or gradual. You need not give God a time frame when to heal. You suffer a lot of patience. God created herbs. The ARVs are from from those plants. They should not have stopped swallowing them. You know there are some pastors who could only be aiming at making money. "False Prophets" also existed in Biblical times so, why cant you expect them today? But what I know Jesus heals because I spent almost ten years with High Blood Pressure. I used to swallow tablets and time came when the medics told me to stop after being defeat at the manner I could swallow them as peer their prescription but not coming down! Later God healed me and now it is over ten years I have never felt anything heart problem. Jesus heals when you have faith like He said "Your faith has healed you" Stop mixing worldly powers, moreover given to you by God with "real" Spiritual matters. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteThat's right Anonymous, Jesus heals ,the problem is most don't believe, it is done unto them according to their faith, if these people would just into the Word of God and believe it, they will be healed. Jesus provided healing on the cross. In Exodus 20:5 he says 'I am the Lord that healeth thee'. Remember, wide is the gate that leads to destruction and narrow is the road that leads to heaven, repent and believe the good news of the Gospel, if you don't get healed, you have only one person to blame, yourself,....by His stripes you WERE healed.....believe and receive, doubt and go without...
